El Patio de LaTomata is a charming Mediterranean restaurant nestled in the vibrant Chamberí district of Madrid, known especially for its exceptional focus on the humble tomato elevated to an art form. Located at C/ de Ponzano, 26, this cozy yet refined spot offers an authentic taste of Spain’s freshest ingredients with a contemporary twist.
From the moment you step inside, the inviting ambiance captivates you—warm lighting and tasteful décor create a welcoming atmosphere that perfectly complements the culinary delights on offer. The menu is a celebration of quality and freshness, with standout dishes such as the renowned Tomato Bomb: a sumptuous, creamy burrata cheese paired with perfectly ripened tomatoes drizzled in premium olive oil that tastes as if it were plucked from a Michelin-starred kitchen. Thomas B’s review beautifully encapsulates this, praising the tomatoes' rare quality that is typically known only to those with private farms in Spain.
Other must-try dishes include the traditional Salmorejo, a cold tomato soup that brims with vibrant, fresh flavors, and the delightful combination of tomatoes with burrata, which Ellee Clausen notes as both delicious and incredibly fresh. Vegan diners are well-catered for here as well; Aryn Cooper highlights the thoughtful accommodations for vegan options and praises the spectacular ambiance, making El Patio de LaTomata a place that warmly welcomes all palates.
The breakfast offerings are equally impressive. From the rich and creamy La Vegana accompanied by a perfectly crafted café con leche, to generous portions that offer amazing quality, breakfasts here have earned acclaim from patrons like Margaux Malcourant who calls it one of the best breakfasts she’s had in Madrid.
Beyond the food, attentive and friendly service further enhances your experience. Michelle’s praise for the polite and eager-to-please staff, specifically naming Rayco, reflects the genuine warmth and professionalism you can expect. Diana Kohan also commends the friendly team and the beautiful interior, making each visit feel special and comfortable.
While some guests, like Vanja, have found the menu presentation a bit unconventional—remarking on the sometimes confusing video-style format—the overall sentiments lean heavily towards the superb quality and authenticity of the cuisine. It’s a spot that invites you to slow down, savor each bite, and truly appreciate the simplicity and excellence of Mediterranean ingredients done right.
For lovers of fresh, vibrant flavors and a place that feels like a hidden gem in Madrid’s bustling food scene, El Patio de LaTomata stands out—a sanctuary where tomatoes are the stars and every dish carries the essence of Mediterranean sunshine.

An excellent example of how good Spanish cuisine can be. The quality of the tomatoes here is of the, share it only with family and friends level. Unless you have an uncle with a little farm in Spain you have not had tomato dishes like these before. The tomato bomb is at just the right temperature, it's burata tender and creamy and the olive oil is like that of a star restaurant. Anchoas come in many types, and Spanish people always wax on about how good they are, they are fine normally, except here, here they are amazing! Very tasteful, with great texture and highlighted by the home made tomato butter. Great service by Raico, good atmosphere and a great place to bring those difficult friends that you care about (gluten-free, vegetarians, etc.) while there are also great meat options. Honestly a gem !
